Can You Solve This Professor Layton and the Demon Flute Puzzle? [Brain Teaser]

Chris Kohler over at Wired’s Game Life blog has gotten himself deep into a copy of Professor Layton ’s next out, Demon Flute, which was released in Japan last week. Here’s a tiny taste of the puzzles we can expect. Kohler’s translation of the puzzle reads: The four photographs below were taken in the same place. Of the four people in the photos, three of them came as a group, and each had their picture taken one after the other. The one other person came on a different day at a different time. Pick the three photos that have the people who all came together. He swears you can solve the riddle just from that screen shot — so go for it! Other than that tiny tidbit, there’s some interesting info about some new features introduced in Layton’s fourth outing. For one thing, we get some story insights since this is the first game in what’s basically a prequel for the Curious Village-Diabolical Box-Last Time Travel trilogy. (Last Time Travel is coming Stateside eventually, according to developer Level-5 headman, Akihiro Hino.) For another, we get a rundown of three new mini-games: Fish-feeding, Puppet Theater and… a train set? Sounds pretty cool to me. Dress Up Your Wiimotes With New Super Mario Bros Wii Bundle [Bundles Of Joy]

We’ve seen a Black Friday deal or two about Wiis being bundled with New Super Mario Bros. But this is the first I’ve seen of a New Super Mario Bros. bundle with Wiimote static clings. The $69.99 spotted on Amazon.com comes with four Mario static clings, a large t-shirt and a plastic lunchbox. Oh, and the game — it comes with that, too. Sadly, the t-shirt is a men’s large size, so I’m going to have to pass because the last thing I need is another gamer t-shirt that I can’t wear to anything but bed. I’ll keep an eye out for the static clings on eBay, though — anything to disguise the discoloration my Wiimotes suffer from having a close proximity to Cheetos. Crytek Games that Never Were, Have Yet To Be [Art]

Maciej Kuciara, Art Director/Concept Artist at Crytek, posted these spiffy pics to ConceptArt.org forums and we’re re-posting some of them here because they smack of Frank Frazetta… and awesomeness! Find the rest here . And for the record, no, these aren’t Crysis concept art sketches. I think the ninja chick should’ve tipped you off if nothing else. But still, I bet there could be a “cry” in the title of all of these would-be games. Can you name them all? R.U.S.E. Beta Keys Deployed To V.I.P.s [Ubisoft]

Did you register for the R.U.S.E beta ? Then you may want to check your e-mail and make sure your Steam account is in good standing. Ubisoft kicked off the game’s V.I.P. beta program today. The R.U.S.E. beta test program going live today is a positive sign that the real-time strategy game will make its early 2010 release date, but we’ll wait patiently for a “going gold” announcement and solid confirmation from the publisher before getting too excited. For those that did get in, let us know what you think. We’ve messed around with the game at various events and were generally impressed with the ability to play the thing with an Xbox 360 controller and with its simple on the surface, deep underneath strategic gameplay. This Is German Truck Simulator [Clips]

SCS Software , maker of fine PC driving simulation games like Bus Driver and 18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul is refining its cargo-hauling, truck-driving focus with German Truck Simulator . Yep. It’s exactly what you think it is. German Truck Simulator puts you behind the wheel of an officially licensed MAN truck, then lets you haul, I presume, fine sausages, well engineered cars and expertly crafted beers across the great land of Germany. Along the way, while listening to, I further presume, Kraftwerk and Rammstein on long stretches of autobahn. Think of it as a more refined version of SCS Software’s Euro Truck Simulator. The actual facts —you’ll hire skilled German truckers and “manage your company’s efficiency”—probably aren’t as exciting as the one’s I’ve made up. And it’s highly doubtful that prison escapes by commercial truck have been considered. But if you’ve built up a big German thirst for accurate trucking sims, you know what game to get come January of next year. Still not convinced? Here’s more German Truck Simulator. To: Ashcraft From: Totilo Re: What Happens When You Watch Totoro All Day Long How do your kids feel about My Neighbor Totoro’s Catbus ? I picked up a small stuffed Catbus for my niece when I was in Tokyo a few years ago. The thing looks fascinating. But then I worried that it was too creepy for a then-three-year-old. So I bought a Totoro doll at the airport and gave her that instead. I kept the Catbus, because, well, you don’t junk stuffed Catbusses that you carry halfway across the world, right? So, with Crecente on vacation this week, how much do you think we can wreck the place? I was going to write my posts backwards. No More Heroes Xbox 360, PS3 Has No More Motion Control [No More Heroes]

November 30, 2009 by admin

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 port of No More Heroes won’t take advantage of new motion control schemes for those respective platforms, according to Marvelous Entertainment head honcho Yasuhiro Wada , condemning Travis Touchdown to an analog stick controlled fate. Wada tells Edge Online that No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise is getting the high-definition once over to “bring the game to a wider audience.” To wit, Marvelous isn’t “currently considering to use uncommon new technology” like Project Natal and Sony’s still-unnamed(?) motion controller. No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise is being reworked for a prettier, motion control-free release by Lost Odyssey and Ninety Nine Nights II developers Feelplus. Wada says that the new analog control scheme should “improve the sense of being in the game.” Should No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise find a new publisher and make it to these shores, rest assured, dear reader, that we’ll spend ample time sensing the amount of improved being in the remake, holding Wada to his word. Lost Planet 2: Introducing Akrid X [Screens]

Episode 2 of Lost Planet 2 pits you against the massive Akrid X , who may or may not secretly be the brother of Speed Akrid. Okay, he’s probably not related to Speed Akrid, if such an akrid even exists, but he does throw fireballs, breathes fire, and hurls train cars at you, all of which sound particularly painful. Luckily for you and your akrid-hunting friends, the town you take on Akrid X in is filled with weapons and giant robot walkers, so you should be okay as long as you don’t die horribly. Check out the full boss profile for Akrid X by following the magical link below. Lost Planet 2 Boss Profile: Akrid X [Capcom Unity] Read the rest here: Lost Planet 2: Introducing Akrid X [Screens]

Duke Nukem Teases D-Day, Which Could Be A Game That’ll Actually Come Out [What]

November 30, 2009 by admin

According to the official Duke Nukem Facebook page, “Duke Nukem doesn’t stay down for long.” Or so a newly released screen shot of something labeled “D-Day” would imply. That screen shot of a character who sure doesn’t look like Mr. Nukem taking aim at a beast that looks Duke universe appropriate was spotted by Shacknews earlier today, leading to speculation that yet another Duke Nukem project is in the works in some capacity and that it could one day actually be released. Or not. The “D-Day” information offered by the official Duke Nukem Facebook presence doesn’t offer any further details about what the “preview pic” is for. It could be a snap from the on-hold Duke Begins from Gearbox Software or from the purportedly still in development Duke Nukem Forever from 3D Realms . Who wants to place some bets? Nintendo Sold Over 1.5 Million Wiis, DSs Last Week [Corporate Gloating]

November 30, 2009 by admin

November will be a big month for Nintendo when all is said and done, based on the more than 1.5 million consoles and handhelds it sold in the United States last week. That 1.5 million breaks down to more than 550,000 Wii consoles and more than 1 million Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi portables, according to Nintendo’s internal estimates. In terms of frequency, that’s over 150 Nintendo hardware units sold every minute, more than 2.5 smiles put on faces every second. Yes, those are impressive numbers. But one of those numbers was more impressive last year, when Nintendo says it sold more than 800,000 Wiis during the same time period. In 2007, Nintendo sold a comparitively meager 350,000 Wiis during the Thanksgiving spending spree. That year, Nintendo boasted that Nintendo DS sales topped 600,000 during the same week long period, a number that jumped 20% the following year, nothing that compares to the new 1 million unit sold record held by combined DS and DSi sales. Since Nintendo sold 506,900 Wii consoles and 457,600 Nintendo DSs during the full month of October , we’ll bet the company will have something to brag about when November’s tally rolls around. While we suspect it won’t shatter November 2008’s amazing, ” historic ” records,, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Nintendo branded things topping the charts.
