X-Play Review: ‘Excitebots: Trick Racing’
The Wii hardware isn’t quite powerful enough to deliver a realistic sim-racing experience, but that doesn’t mean Nintendo can’t cross the finish line. Excitebots: Trick Racing is a new arcade-style cartoon racing game that delivers easy to learn play mechanics, a fun assortment of mini-games and online multiplayer. According to reviewer Rob Manuel: “The influence of Mario Kart is hard to argue when so many others try to copy it’s easy to pick up and play style along with a wide appeal. Never satisfied cornering the market on this kart racing games, Nintendo tries to push the genre once again by creating a racing game that has perhaps veered off the racing spectrum all together. Excitebots: Trick Racing practically fills every muddy path with tricks and treats while leaving gear heads behind in the dust.” Click here to watch the video and read the full written review.

Red Steel 2 coming this year, with MotionPlus support
UbiSoft has a history of leading the way on the Wii: Red Steel was one of the system’s first shooters, and Shaun White was likewise one of the better games to make use of the Wii Balance Board. This trend is going to be continued, as Red Steel 2—using the MotionPlus—has been announced. And now, marketing speak. “Red Steel 2 returns with an artistic style and flair created just for Wii. Set in a desert-bound, high-tech metropolis, Red Steel 2 is a revolution in the action-fighting genre, taking full advantage of the capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus accessory. Your movements are faithfully replicated on-screen, putting the emphasis on swinging, shooting and fun! With the ability of the Wii MotionPlus to sense the strength of a swing, you will literally be able to make an impact on your adversaries through power and precision.” It sounds good, but with only a bit of artwork to show off the new game, there’s not much else to go on. The first game wasn’t a fan favorite, although it scores points for being first. I don’t think anyone is going to be as forgiving this time around, so hopefully the game will be something special. The game is set to be released this year, and is being built from the ground up to take advantage of the MotionPlus.

Moore: Games To Take Cues From Music Biz In Move To Online
EA Sports boss Peter Moore frequently discusses the migration of gaming to the online and digitally distributed environment — and at a recent UK press event, he says “we’re at [a] 65 per cent adoption rate online.” Moore expects gaming to go digital as gradually and as thoroughly as music has — even though he sees present barriers to adoption in the console with the largest userbase. “It’s lagging a little bit because the Wii …

Analyst: Sims 3 Could Sell 4 Million In ‘09
Electronic Arts’ upcoming Sims 3 could sell over 4 million units in 2009, says Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey — although he expects that a demographic transition toward newer entertainment forms like Nintendo’s Wii and DS might weigh on the title. Sims 2 sold an estimated 3.5 units in calendar 2004, so the analyst expects the anticipated sequel to outdo its predecessor. EA also detailed today the game’s digital distribution-heavy, points-based model for further monetization, …
